Four dead bodies washed up to İzmir shore
21 September 2011, Wednesday / Today Zaman
Four dead bodies were washed up to Aegaen city of İzmir’s Seferihisar shore Wednesday and initial reports say that the dead bodies are not Turks and might be illegal immigrants.
State-run Anatolia news agency reported on Wednesday that witnesses informed police as they noticed the dead bodies on the surface of the sea. Seferihisar Gendarmerie Command sent the dead bodies to İzmir Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
Search and rescue boats and helicopters have started their search mission as it is suspected that the dead bodies might be sailing with an immigrant boat and that the boat might sink. The rescue crew found a bag that is believed to belong to one of the dead bodies.
Witness Vahit Uçar told the Anatolia that he informed police on the dead bodies after he saw them and rescued them. He said while three of the dead are 35-40 years old, the other is 18 years old, adding that the dead bodies don’t look like Turks. Investigation showed that the people are dead at least one day.
